GENERAL PRINTING TERMS

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

A electronic acknowledgment of each order will be submitted by Kal Pac after a ship date is received from our factory. Each order will be printed and manufactured according to the specifications and terms stated and published, unless notified to the contrary in writing within 1 to 3 days of our acknowledgment date. Cancellation is subject to Kal Pac acceptance.

 

BLEED

Refers to extra artwork graphics or color that extend beyond the final dimensions of a the bag or area. 1/8' Bleed is applied to Plastic Bags and 1/16' is used for Paper.
 

CREDIT APPROVAL

All initial orders must be accompanied by one bank and two trade references.

 

DEFAULT & CANCELLATION

a) Orders may not be canceled or modified, in whole or in part, by customer after acceptance by Kal Pac without Kal Pac’s written consent.

b) If customer fails, with respect to any order or agreement with Kal Pac, to pay any invoice when due or to accept any shipment as scheduled, Kal Pac may, without prejudice to other remedies, defer further shipments until the default is corrected.

 

FLEXOGRAPHIC PRINTING / PLATES

This process uses raised image printing plates made from photopolymer or rubber transferring ink from the plate to the substrate. Best for simple artwork with no screens or fine lines as ink can spread.

 

FREIGHT

a) All shipments are F.O.B. Kal Pac Warehouse either in Montgomery, NY 12549, or Dallas, TX 75228.

b) All shipments are made Best Way Freight Collect or Best Way 3rd Party (unless specified on a purchase order). There will be a $10.00 charge per destination on all shipments going to more than two locations.
 

GSM

Paper is measured in grams per square metre aka GSM. The higher the GSM, the heavier and thicker the paper.

 

GRAVURE

This process uses engraved metal cylinders with cell shapes to transfer ink directly from the engraved cylinders to the substrate.

 

GUSSET

Used to designate the 'side' of the bag.

 

INK COVERAGE

Describes the amount of ink to be printed on a bag. There are 4 levels of ink coverage:

       1.) 25% or less coverage

       2.) 26-50% coverage

       3.) 51-75% coverage

       4.) 76-100% coverage.

 

INK DRAWDOWN / INK ROLLOUT

A representation of an ink which has been rolled out by hand on a sample of the film on which an order will be printed. This ink color or special match color is sent to a customer for approval prior to printing. Ink drawdowns are available upon request at additional cost.

 

INK LAYDOWN

A term used to describe the order in which ink colors are printed, generally lightest to darkest.

 

INSPECTION & CLAIM FOR MERCHANDISE DAMAGED OR MISSING IN SHIPMENT

All shipments should be inspected. Damaged or missing cartons must be noted on your incoming freight bill delivery receipt. If there is a loss or damage of cartons, the appropriate party must file the claim with the carrier. Customer shall pay for goods shipped and invoiced, accepting all responsibility for the assertions of claims for such loss or damage. No claims will be recognized by Kal Pac Corp. after 90 days.

 

LINE COUNT / SCREEN COUNT

Refers to the number of dots per linear inch (example: a 55 line screen has 55 dots in one linear inch). Dots per inch is also known as DPI or PPI (points per inch).
 

METAL PLATES

Best printing method to use for registration, thin/small lines and color screens. This also has less ink spread on plastic.
 

MIL

A MIL is the industry-wide unit of measurement for bag thickness, or gauge. One MIL is equal to a thousandth of an inch (1000 mil = 1 inch).

 

OVER/UNDERRUNS

3M-10M ........ 30%  |  11M-25M .............. 25%  |  26M-50M ........ 15%  |  OVER 50M ........ 10%

 

POSITIVE

A photographic image which corresponds exactly to an original in all details.

 

PRICING

All Prices Contained Herein:

       a) are per 1,000 bags

       b) include 2 side printing unless otherwise noted

       c) does not include the cost of artwork and plates

       d) are F.O.B. Mill as indicated on each price sheet

       e) are subject to change without notice

PROOFS

Proofs are done by Kal Pac on orders with new art or copy change. On request or at our discretion, proofs of new art or existing copy will be submitted for approval. Please note that proofs will delay your order and final delivery date.

 

RETURN OF MERCHANDISE

No returns will be accepted without Kal Pac’s prior approval in writing and items must be returned within 90 Days. Once approved by Kal Pac, the customer shall pay for the shipping charges to return the goods. For stock items, a restocking fee will be charged.

 

REGISTRATION

Refers to the alignment of ink plates for transfer onto the desired material. If you are printing something with more than one color, then each color will be printed separately on the press. If something isn’t registered properly, then when it prints, colors will blend, letters and images will look fuzzy, colors may be where you don’t want them, and in some instances gaps will open up where they shouldn’t be.

 

TEMPLATE

A computer generated illustration which outlines the perimeters, folds and specifications of a bag. Layouts are helpful with setting up artwork. 

 

TERMS

Net 30 days. Kal Pac reserves the right to charge 1.5% per month on overdue invoices.

 

TRAP

A pre-press technique that involves overlapping colors in artwork to prevent gaps & color misalignments for production. This prevents their separating as a result of machine movement during printing. Where colors overlap a third color may be seen.

 

VECTOR ARTWORK

Is a form of editable computer graphics/artwork in which visual images are created directly from shapes. Vector art can easily scale, modify, or resize without hurting its quality.

 

WARRANTIES, CLAIMS & LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITIES

a) Kal Pac makes no warranty, expressed or implied, with respect to the goods or to their suitability, for any particular use and sells them as is, except that Kal Pac will be responsible to Buyer only, for faulty workmanship and use of imperfect materials. All claims by Buyer of faulty merchandise or use of imperfect materials must be made in writing and substantiated by samples. No claims will be recognized by Kal Pac Corp. after 90 days.
 

b) Kal Pac shall not be liable under any circumstances to Buyer or any other person where the goods are not warehoused, handled, or used in accordance with proper and customary practices of the trade. Buyer’s exclusive remedy and Kal Pac (seller) sole liability on any claim, whether tort, contract, or warranty, shall be limited to replacement of the defective goods or at Kal Pac’s option, to reimbursement of Buyer’s actual cost of the goods not so replaced, and in no event shall Kal Pac be liable for indemnification of Buyer on account of any claim asserted against Buyer or for any other further damage of any kind whatsoever, whether direct or indirect.
 

c) No claims will be recognized by Kal Pac Corp. after 90 days from date of delivery.
 

d) CONTINGENCIES

Kal Pac shall not be liable to Buyer or any other person for any failure or delay in the performance of any obligation due to events beyond its reasonable control including, but not limited to: fire, storm, earthquake, explosion, accident, global pandemics, acts of public enemy, sabotages, work stoppages, transportation embargoes or delays, failure or shortage of materials, supplies or machinery, acts of God, acts of regulations or priorities of the Federal, State or local governments or branches of agencies thereof, and government contracts or shipments to purchases to fulfill government contracts.
